Acceptance
By using IsMyTapSafe.com you agree to these terms. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the site.
What this site provides
IsMyTapSafe.com presents drinking water testing results published by the United States Environmental Protection Agency, together with our own analysis and explanatory writing. It is an information resource.
It is not advice
Nothing on this site is medical, legal, environmental, engineering or safety advice, and nothing here establishes a professional relationship of any kind. Information presented here is general and cannot account for the circumstances of any particular household, property or person.
Do not use this site to make decisions about a medical condition, a legal claim, a property purchase, or the safety of a specific water supply, without consulting a qualified professional and, where the question concerns your own supply, without testing it. If you believe your water presents an immediate health risk, contact your water utility or local health department.
Accuracy and limitations
We take care to present federal data faithfully and to document its limitations, which are set out on our About our data page. We do not warrant that the information is complete, current or free of error.
In particular: the underlying testing covers 30 specific substances and no others; it excludes lead, nitrate, arsenic and bacteria; it excludes tens of thousands of small systems and all private wells; results are individual samples rather than compliance determinations; and conditions change after a sample is taken. An absence of results is not evidence of safety.
Regulatory information
Federal drinking water regulation is subject to change, and proposals affecting the limits referenced on this site are currently pending. We review the position periodically, but you should confirm the current regulatory status with EPA or your state primacy agency before relying on it.
Use of our content
The underlying federal data is in the public domain and requires no permission from us. Our analysis, calculations, writing, design and code are our own and are protected by copyright.
You may quote short passages and cite figures we have calculated, provided you attribute them to IsMyTapSafe.com, link to the page, and reproduce the relevant caveats. You may not reproduce substantial portions of the site, or systematically extract our compiled dataset, without permission.
Acceptable use
You agree not to use the site in any way that damages or overloads it, interferes with other users, attempts to gain unauthorised access, or breaches any applicable law.
External links and commercial content
We link to external sites, including federal agencies and, on some pages, retailers. We are not responsible for external content. Where a page contains affiliate links, it discloses this; a commission does not affect the data shown anywhere on this site.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, IsMyTapSafe.com is provided as is and without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We are not liable for any loss or damage arising from use of, or reliance on, this site or its content.
Changes
We may revise these terms. The date at the top of this page shows when they last changed, and continued use after a change constitutes acceptance.
